Maintenance Mechanic
Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. Provides technical support to the Maintenance Manager, plant operations, and maintenance personnel.
Shift: Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
Pay: $26–$32/hour DOE
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Level A
Meet all safety and LOTO requirements; properly use PPE
Operate basic hand, power, and machine shop tools
Understand emergency stops and electrical diagnostic tools
Operate lift trucks, cranes, and man lifts (licenses as required)
Perform lubrication, fluid checks, and minor equipment repairs
Use micrometers, calipers, and gauges
Assist with machinery repairs, welder adjustments, and draw machine maintenance
Basic lighting and ballast knowledge
Level B
Familiar with all plant equipment and polarity troubleshooting
Replace boards, capacitors, and other drive components
Operate Arc/MIG welders and torches
Troubleshoot basic hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical issues
Perform basic welding, soldering, and mechanical/electrical repairs
Enter maintenance data in Maximo/Oracle
Level C
Conduct preventative maintenance and replace wear parts
Drill, tap, grind, and sand; read single-component blueprints
Repair forklifts and man lifts
Operate band saws; thread, drill, and identify fasteners
Troubleshoot electrical power systems
Identify and service valves, pumps, filters, and cooling systems
Remove/install mechanical parts and gearboxes
Operate equipment for troubleshooting purposes
Level D
Disassemble/reassemble hydraulic and pneumatic components
Diagnose failures in pumps, drives, hydraulics, and cooling systems
Repair and reinstall tables, arms, heads, and external machine parts
Install welder transformers
Advanced troubleshooting and repair of valves, pumps, and gearboxes
Proficient blueprint reading; lead, train, and handle after-hours calls
Level E
Expert troubleshooting and repair of all systems and equipment
Plan and complete preventative maintenance programs
Retrofit major equipment and fabricate simple parts
Drive plant improvements and train personnel (Levels A–C)
Work independently with minimal supervision
Requirements and Education
Technical training (HS + 1–2 years applied trades)
Minimum 2 years’ mechanical experience in manufacturing
Equivalent education/experience considered
