We are seeking a Cutter / Machine Operator for an established company in the Cookeville, TN area who has experience operating a saw and who is familiar with operating machinery, detecting defects, doing visual inspections & quality checks, has good mechanical aptitude and is a team player.

Schedule: Sunday thru Thursday, 2pm to 10pm

Job Duties of the Cutter / Machine Operator:

• Cut to length the tubing that was produced by the Mill Operators.

• Perform visual inspection of parts to identify burrs, damage, and color to establish standards. Loads and unloads assigned machines.

• Observe machine operation to detect part defects or machine malfunction and reports problems to supervisor.

• Perform quality checks and documents each time they are due on the Cutter Log Form.  

• Reference the production schedule and verify the product to the prints or specification forms available in the production area each time a new product (a new cut length) is started. 

• Perform the changeover setup for different Cut to Length on the cutter.

• Assure that the cutting knife is kept in a sharp condition to avoid burrs on the cut edges of the tubing.

• Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Skills and Qualifications of the Cutter / Machine Operator:

• High School diploma or equivalent, preferred.

• Six months’ previous experience in a manufacturing environment or technical school, preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to correctly follow a rule or a basic set of rules, i.e. follow work instructions.

• Must have basic date entry and computer skills.

• Must be able to perform basic shop math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) computations.

• Must be able to effectively communicate in English for safety and direction.

• Frequent need to see details at a close range (within 18 inches of observer) to inspect for part conformity and/or part defect. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• Must be able to stand / walk for long periods of time operating and tending to machines.

• Must be able to bend, stretch, twist.

• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

• Must be a team player who supports other cutters when feasible.

• Must have good mechanical aptitude.
