Job Description

We are hiring for a Machinist/Equipment Assembler in Juneau. This position is a direct hire with an established company that offers excellent benefits from day 1.

The Machinist / Equipment Assembler is responsible for machining, assembling, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical components and industrial equipment. This role supports production, engineering, and continuous improvement efforts by building new equipment, modifying existing machinery, and ensuring assemblies meet quality, safety, and performance standards.

Dayshift Schedule: Monday to Friday

Payrate: $25-28/hr depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

Machining & Fabrication

  • Set up and operate manual and/or CNC machines (mill, lathe, drill press, grinder, saw).

  • Machine parts to specified tolerances using prints, CAD models, and work instructions.

  • Perform basic fabrication tasks including cutting, drilling, tapping, deburring, and finishing.

  • Inspect machined components using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools.

Equipment Assembly

  • Assemble mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components into sub-assemblies and finished equipment.

  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and bills of material (BOMs).

  • Align, shim, fasten, and torque components to specification.

  • Install bearings, motors, gearboxes, belts, chains, guarding, and safety devices.

Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Perform functional testing of assembled equipment to verify proper operation.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify root causes of fit, alignment, or performance problems.

  • Make modifications or repairs as required to meet design intent and operational requirements.

Continuous Improvement & Support

  • Provide feedback to engineering on design improvements, manufacturability, and serviceability.

  • Assist with equipment installation, commissioning, and ramp-up in production areas.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S standards.

Safety & Quality

  • Follow all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and machine safety requirements.

  • Ensure work meets company quality standards and documentation requirements.

  • Report safety hazards, equipment issues, and quality concerns promptly.

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school or apprenticeship preferred.

  • Proficient reading mechanical blueprints and GD&T basics.

  • Hands-on experience with manual machining (CNC experience a plus).

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to use precision measuring tools accurately.
